Std # 1.32: Follow directions
  • Identify directions that are implicit or embedded in a passage

  • Identify the outcome or product of a set of directions

  • Recognize when a set of directions has been followed correctly


Lesson Plans:

ESL Ideas           (B=Beginning; I=Intermediate; T=Transitional)
(B) Students conduct a picture walk and retell the story in their own words.
(I, T) Students follow directions for a story scavenger hunt.
(I, T) Students create and sequence illustrations
about a selection. 
(I, T) Students list the steps in a procedure or science demonstration.  Transitional students can also make sentences or paragraphs about the procedure or demonstration.

Reading Directions
(I, T) Activity helps student use CUCC strategy that helps them better read and follow directions in class: (C) Circle direction words, (U) Underline all important information after each direction word, (C) Count number of direction words, (C) Check off each item as it is completed

Directions to the Museum
( I ) Activity reading dialogue of directions to the museum followed by multiple choice self-checking reading comprehension questions
