Cup Games: Question Words
This lesson, the traditional "cup game" is adapted to help students
memorize the question words (who, what, when, where, why, how) in
Spanish. Students will be able to ask and answer questions using
the Spanish interrogative words.
Planning a Vacation to Spain
In
this lesson students will learn to create a travel brochure for a
destination in Spain. Working in groups, students will be able to create
a travel brochure for their hometown.
Que Hora Es? What Time Is It?
Students will learn how to ask the time and tell the time correctly in
Spanish. They will make paper plate clocks and practice asking and
responding with a partner in Spanish.
Using Songs in the Foreign Language Classroom
This lesson provides ideas for using songs in the foreign language
classroom. In this activity, "La Bamba" is used to introduce/review
targeted Spanish vocabulary.
Mi
Casa, Mi Pueblo y los Maya
This lesson introduces or reinforces general vocabulary that students
need in order to talk or write about where they live. It also compares
and
contrasts their houses and towns with those of the late classic Maya
period in Central America. Basic research skills for finding useful
facts and applying their findings is also promoted.
Body Parts
Using Total Physical Response strategies, students learn body parts in
the target language (Spanish).
Borders: Metaphors &
Realities
Students will explore and create definitions of the word "border."
Students will engage in a multi-perspective way of looking at the
border.
Mexico - Language and Literature
The students will develop their language and literature skills and
knowledge by engaging themselves within a realm of the Mexican culture.
Tasty Tidbits from Spain
Students will gain and use vocabulary which deals with some Spanish
foods. They will also compare typical American meals with typical
Spanish meals.
Mexican
Food
This
lesson introduces Mexican food and the history behind it. The main
objective of this lesson is to introduce new food vocabulary to the
students. In addition, the students will also participate in classroom
activities, make a menu of their own, take quizzes, and use the internet
to practice the vocabulary. The students will apply what they learn in a
Mexican restaurant, by ordering their meal in Spanish

Bingo
This is a great lesson for review. It is the same as playing
Bingo, but you may call it whatever you wish and have the student call
that name out when s/he wins.
Spanish
This lesson teaches the numbers 0-100 the fun and easy way.
Students create their own bingo chart, the teacher calls out numbers
randomly; six matches in a row wins.

This lesson is intended for a beginning-intermediate Spanish class.
Students design postcards to reflect the life and/or work of a
Spanish-speaking artist. Students also write personal messages in
Spanish for practice in vocabulary
terms that have to do with traveling, greetings & farewells, food,
climate, and other such typical themes found on postcards.
The Mayans
This is an
interdisciplinary unit which will explore why the Mayan are not as
prominent today as they were in the past. Students will also develop a
better understanding of Mayan culture and their civilization.
Building Communities/Construyendo Comunidades
The objective of the lesson is to allow students to take responsibility
for their own learning of a foreign language through exploring the theme
of what community means. All groups develop their own core vocabulary of
words
associated with their concept of community. For the Grade and Middle
School students the lessons should be kept at a concrete-operation
cognitive level. For High School students their theme remains the same,
but their
development is more on the abstract cognitive level.
Questions and Answers in a Foreign Language
The object of this lesson is for students to recognize all the
interrogative words, how to phrase questions and how to answer questions
in a foreign language.
Foreign Language Months/Vocabulary Card Game
This lesson is designed to reinforce names of months in the target
foreign language, teach auxiliary vocabulary, and give students a chance
to practice listening.
Spanish Body Parts
In this lesson students will be taught a variety of vocabulary,
including parts of the body and colors, in Spanish.
Spanish Days
of the Week/Counting
This lesson
plan will allow students to learn the names for the days of the week and
learn to count to 31.
Vocabulary Review in Spanish
This
lesson is a vocabulary review. The class is divided into two
teams. Each person has a corresponding partner with which he
competes. One person from each team goes to the board, and the one
who answers correctly first
and can write the answer on the board scores for his/her team.
Baseball Vocabulary
This lesson can be used as a review of vocabulary and verb conjugations.
All levels from beginning levels through advanced can benefit from this
lesson.
Concrete Biopoems
In this lesson students create poems about themselves. This reinforces use of adjectives and other vocabulary. To really
get the students involved have them put their poems inside a drawing of
a shape that
is important to them. For example: a football, a car, a parent's
face, etc.
I Hear Latin America Singing
In this lesson, students learn about the historical and current social,
political, and cultural trends of Latin American countries. After
researching a specific
country, groups write songs that reflect the music styles as well as the
history of the region.
Las estaciones/The Seasons
Topic: Introducing Seasons/the types of weather : In this lesson
students will be able to classify the types of weather in each
season following a lesson on the weather. Procedure: Review the
types of weather. Use picture cards and ask with each "
Hace buen tiempo o hace mal tiempo?"
La Familia
After initial vocabulary presentation, you can allow the students to
practice recognition with a hopscotch board made with the pictures
of the family members as the separate boxes. The students use the family vocabulary as
well as reinforce numbers.
Me gusta
Following a lecture on how to describe likes and dislikes in Spanish
using the formation me gusta(n), elementary students will be able to
tell the class things they like or do not like in Spanish with 100%
accuracy.
