Latin American Pals: An Introduction to Latin America
This lesson plan is an introduction to the geography of Latin America. Using a variety of research methods as well as the Internet and key pals, students are introduced to the countries of Latin America.

Border Music
Students will understand historical and cultural factors expressed in the Tejano musical form. Students will analyze lyrics and instrumentation critically to arrive at insights about the form.

Mexican People: Are They as They Seem:
In order for students to understand properly the way a language is spoken, they must first understand the way the people who speak the language think and why. This unit will present a general overview of the frustrating and, more often than not, violent history of the Republic of Mexico. This presentation will enlighten students as to some of the background of Mexican people, setting the stage for further investigation and understanding of various quirks of the spoken and written language.

Mexican Food
The purpose of this lesson is to provide students with analytical schemata for increased understanding of cultural foods and cultural materials.  Students will also  practice their computer/research skills by looking up a recipe for Mexican chocolate on the Internet. They will then  demonstrate their ability to translate by translating the recipes into English. Finally students will show creativity by inventing their own original recipe for Mexican chocolate.

Albuquerque y Nuevo México/Albuquerque and New Mexico
The student will learn how the arrival of the railroad and the introduction of the automobile caused huge growth in population, and how transportation has helped shape culture in New Mexico.  They will also use their translation skills.

A Pre-Columbian Mosaic of Latin America: Linguistic Diversity within the Maya Cultural Region
Students will look at the diversity of languages and ethnic groups as an identifier of geographic location and isolation, history, and an important ethnic cultural expression. Students will also recognize the fact that over 28 different dialects are spoken by 3 million people who identify themselves a Maya.  These dialects define their ethnic groups, as do their clothing, history, and other cultural characteristics.

Mexico - Language and Literature
The students will develop their language and literature skills and knowledge by engaging themselves within a realm of the Mexican culture.

Tasty Tidbits from Spain
Students will gain and use vocabulary which deals with some Spanish foods.  They will also compare typical American meals with typical Spanish meals.

The Mayans
This is an interdisciplinary unit which will explore why the Mayan are not as prominent today as they were in the past. Students will also develop a better understanding of Mayan culture and their civilization.

The Roots of American Culture
In this lesson, students first explore the notion of culture and the influence of Latino culture on the U.S. Students then work in small groups to identify ways that Latino and non-Latino U.S. cultures have engaged in cultural 'cross-fertilization.

Traditions of Spain
The students will gain knowledge of Spanish customs. The students will be able to compare this with that of the United States customs. The teacher will need to invite a speaker well versed in the Spanish customs to make a presentation to the students.

Using Powerpoint to learn vocabulary
The purpose of this lesson is for the students to learn the Spanish terminology for family members; to learn how to use Microsoft Power Point; to learn how to use a scanner.

Aztecs Meet the Spanish
This assignment will challenge all levels of Spanish It involves the use of a variety of maps and documents. Students will also need to use their analytical skills.

Costa Rica Lessons
The object of this lesson is to do a timeline on Costa Rica's history.  Students must first have a basic knowledge of the country including its location, type of government and some aspects of its history.

Hispanic World Unit
In this unit, students will conduct primary and secondary research to know the "hispanohablantes" in the world. These explorations will serve as windows for these Spanish-speaking countries for students to acquire information and impression from different perspectives . Students are supposed to conduct the researches by using their Spanish ability to comprehend the information on Internet.

Native American Issues in Latin America
This site details three "mini-lessons", each exploring one issue of current concern on the Zuni Indian Reservation and in Latin America. These issues are: devastation of rainforests, civil and human rights, and the survival of Native languages.

Museo del Prado This website is for one of Spain's most famous museums. It offers online tours of its collection and other museum information.

CNN En Español CNN world news in Spanish. A great resource for Sports, weather, international concerns, health, fashion and everything else you are used to from CNN.

Online Resources-Spanish This site is dedicated to materials for language learning. It includes courses, grammar, links to practice materials in all four modalities, and much more.

Webspañol This site has pronunciation, verbs, lessons, links and much more. This site boasts of their commitment to Spanish Language study with Internet resources.

Spanish Grammar Exercises This site is a wonderful practice resource for all those fine tune grammar points that students struggle with so often. Try it out!

TeachSpanish.com This Country Resource Center will allow you to explore any Latin American country you choose in either English or Spanish. Also, when you get to a country, simply click on the country flag to get some general demographic information in English about that country.

Spanish Storytelling Here is a collection of ideas for teaching command-verbs in Spanish.
Focus. - Students listen to teacher utter commands in Spanish and as teacher acts out these commands, students respond by moving just like the teacher.
