Folk Dances from Spanish Speaking Countries
This site allows you to direct your
students' research of three Spanish speaking countries and learn about
their folk dances.
El tiempo en la América del Sur
In this lesson students read a schedule/calendar for the national women's soccer
league. They extrapolate information based on direct questions.
El Almacen
In this lesson the students will decorate the classroom like a
department store, including prices in pesos. Afterwards, the students
will prepare skits of varying lengths using the department store they
have just created.

In
this lesson students will learn about the life and works of a Hispanic
artist. They will practice addressing letters and using short,
descriptive phrases to share their impressions of the Hispanic country
they chose to write about. The project will take 2-3 days to complete.
Cocina Mexicana
This lesson plan designed to increase students' Spanish
vocabulary through a study of Mexican cuisine. Students will use the
Internet to research recipes, discuss the foodstuffs and utensils in a
mystery box.
Learning about Mexico: Making and Using Salt Dough Human Puppets in the
Classroom
This lesson, begins by showing students how to make hand-held salt-dough
"human" puppets. The students then research the history, family life,
economics, politics, literature, music and art of Mexico.
Finally, using their research material, students write skits in which
the puppets speak Spanish and English.
The
Latin American Mercado: Who Made This?
This lesson is designed to teach students
about the mercado or marketplace, a basic economic institution in Latin
America. Also included are the concepts of barter, bargaining, exchange
and work, as well as a study of the effects of economic development on
society and all this will be done in order to speak Spanish "in a
real setting for a real reason to real people."

"Nuestra Escuela," students explore how they as individuals fit into the
school community, and the ways in which the school has changed or
remained the same within the context of the broader community
Mexican
Food
This
lesson introduces Mexican food and the history behind it. The main
objective of this lesson is to introduce new food vocabulary to the
students. In addition, the students will also participate in classroom
activities, make a menu of their own, take quizzes, and use the internet
to practice the vocabulary. The students will apply what they learn in a
Mexican restaurant, by ordering their meal in Spanish

This is a great lesson for review. It is the same as playing
Bingo, but you may call it whatever you wish and have the student call
that name out when s/he wins.
Electronic Journals about Latin American Folktales
This lesson combines technology and research using authentic
student-to-student dialog about folktales from their countries. Folklore
genre provides the context through which students will learn more about
Latin American countries. Teachers
will need to subscribe to an Internet discussion list intended for
teachers seeking classroom partners for an intercultural email project.
