Lesson Plans:

What "El Chupacabras" means to me!!!
In this lesson you will: Recognize and review some of the different fictitious characters that exist in the Hispanic culture and compare them to the "Anglo" culture. Students will be introduced to the figure of "El Chupacabras".

Los Trenes de España
In this lesson students comprehend the language and symbols of a Spanish train schedule, learn some basic geography of Spain, recognize the 24-hour clock, navigate a site entirely in Spanish, and retrieve specific information on the WWW.

El Sabor del Caribe / A Taste of the Caribbean
Students analyze literature created by modern Latino authors who use foods as symbols for identity, patriotism, religion, and nostalgia.

Hispanic World Unit
In this unit, students will conduct primary and secondary research to know the "hispanohablantes" in the world. These  information and impression from different perspectives. explorations will serve as windows for these Spanish-speaking countries for students to acquire

The Aztecs―Mighty Warriors of Mexico
In this lesson students will learn about the history and culture of the Aztecs and discover why their civilization came to an abrupt end.

Different Ethnic Groups in Ecuador, Panama and Argentina: Their Assimilation and their Contributions
This is a lesson plan which is an introduction to the geography of Latin America. Using a variety of research methods as well as the Internet and key pals, students are introduced to the countries of Latin America.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez/Colombia
This lesson plan, consists of two parts. In the first part, students will research the South American country of Colombia, birthplace of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. In the second part, students will read the short story "La Santa," by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, winner of the 1982 Nobel Prize for literature. They will then compare the short story to the movie "Miracle in Rome," also authored by Marquez.

The Aztec Conquest & the Birth of a New Race (Mestizo)
This is a lesson plan designed to teach students about Aztec life and the conquest of the Aztecs by the Spanish.

Precolumbian Myths and Legends
By exploring this site on Pre-Columbian myths and legends students will gain insight into these people's history, values, perceptions, attitudes, ethics, tolerance and religious beliefs.

This lesson involves a study of the reasons (not covered by the media) Mexican and other Latin Americans immigrate to the United States.

Creating a Spanish Literature Book
Students will create a Spanish literature book to better understand stories taught in  the AP Spanish Literature course.  The authors of the stories they will depict in a construction book  will be : Federico Garcia Lorca, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Jorge Luis Borges, Ana Maria Matute, and Miguel de Unamuno.

The Mayans
This is an interdisciplinary unit which will explore why the Mayan are not as prominent today as they were in the past. Students will also develop a better understanding of Mayan culture and their civilization.

Traditions of Spain
In this lesson, Traditions of Spain, students will gain knowledge of Spanish customs. The students will be able to compare this with that of the United States customs.

Cultural Capital: Examining How Immigrant Groups Adjust to American Society
In this lesson, students research the adaptation and acculturation of immigrant groups in the United States. They then create “culture capsules” aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of new peoples in American society.

The Roots of American Culture
In this lesson, students first explore the notion of culture and the influence of Latino culture on the U.S. Students then work in small groups to identify ways that Latino and non-Latino U.S. cultures have engaged in cultural 'cross-fertilization.

I Hear Latin America Singing
In this lesson, students learn about the historical and current social, political, and cultural trends of Latin American countries. After researching a specific country, groups write songs that reflect the music styles as well as the history of the region.

Aztecs Meet the Spanish
This assignment will challenge all levels of Spanish It involves the use of a variety of maps and documents.  Students will also need to use their analytical skills.

Costa Rica Lessons
The object of this lesson is to do a timeline on Costa Rica's history.  Students must first have a basic knowledge of the country including its location, type of government and some aspects of its history.
