Lesson Plans:
Geography and History in Songs
Art works, particularly paintings, can reveal a good deal of
information about places and what they looked like in the past. This
lesson has students look at some historical paintings on the Internet
and describe the things the paintings reveal about the places they
depict.
Heightening Awareness: Examining the Explosive History of Haiti
In this lesson, students will consider their preconceived notions and
knowledge about Haiti, and then examine the history of this country in
light of current events.
Liberty, Equality, Uniformity: Debating Secularism in France's
Public Schools
In this lesson, students will learn about the French draft law to ban
religious symbols from public schools. They then research "secularist"
and "pluralist" positions regarding this ban, and debate the topic in
class.
Tour de France
In this unit, students learn about the provinces of France, thoroughly
researching one of them. They write a persuasive argument to an
imaginary committee who will be choosing the route for the next Tour
de France.
