French I
Std. 4.2
Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons of the French cultures studied and their own.

Lesson Plans:

Discovering the Food Culture of the French
After having studied French food culture, students will create a Venn diagram, comparing and contrasting French food culture with that of America's food culture.

The French Revolution
This is a set of four lesson plans on the French Revolution.

French Connections
This lesson is designed to strengthen student perceptions of the real-world importance of mastering a foreign language; to give students at all levels practice in reading and writing French; to engage lower level students in using their knowledge of French to plan a tour of Paris; and to engage upper level students in using their knowledge of French to compare French and American journalism.

Tour de France
In this unit, students learn about the provinces of France, thoroughly researching one of them. They write a persuasive argument to an imaginary committee who will be choosing the route for the next Tour de France.

Á la Poste/ At the Post Office
Students will perform a variety of tasks related to the post office and letter writing in French. By composing a letter and purchasing a stamp in French, students will be assessed in writing comprehension and oral production.

Au Cinema/ At the Movies
Students will practice reading, writing, and saying vocabulary associated with going to the movies. In a small group presentation, students will be given a film genre from which they must write and perform a script for the class.

La Cuisine Française
In this technology-connected lesson, students will create a one-page menu for a French restaurant with "Spécialités du Jour" from three different francophone (French-speaking) countries or cultures. Internet-connected computers and word processing software are necessary to implement this lesson.
