| Lesson Plans:
Discovering the Food Culture of the French
After having studied French food culture, students will create a Venn
diagram, comparing and contrasting French food culture with that of
America's food culture.
French
Connections
This lesson is designed to
strengthen student perceptions of the real-world importance of mastering
a foreign language; to give students at all levels practice in reading
and writing French; to engage lower level students in using their
knowledge of French to plan a tour of Paris; and to engage upper level
students in using their knowledge of French to compare French and
American journalism.
20th
Century Collage
In
this scenario, student groups research various topics of 20th century
French civilization, literature, and culture by decades. Areas of study
include music, art, architecture, literature, theater, film, politics,
religion, science, medicine, technology, and daily life.
Experiencing Life in the Middle Ages
In this unit, groups of students research topics from the Middle Ages.
Each group presents its findings to the class. Students learn new
vocabulary and historical information. They review and practice
vocabulary related to families, preferences, houses, occupations, and
hobbies.
Le Carrefour Culturel
What is American? What is French? The attempt to find a simple
definition of either culture is impossible. In this scenario,
students develop an understanding of the effects of French colonialism
on Africa and/or the Caribbean as well as the concept of Négritude,
an expression of the cultural crossroads (carrefour culturel)
experienced by those of the former French colonies.
