This lesson addresses three questions: What are the relationships
between the characters? What contributed to the events leading up to
the real witch trials of 1692? How do the political events of the
1950s contribute to our understanding of The Crucible?
Hamlet and the Revenge Ethic in Text and Film
This lesson seeks to sensitize students to the
complex nature of revenge as it is portrayed in Shakespeare's The
Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. Students learn how
Shakespeare's play interprets Elizabethan attitudes toward revenge, as
reflected in the structure of the Elizabethan revenge tragedy, one of
the most popular forms of drama of that era.
Introduction to argument
This activity introduces students to argumentation. By the end of the
lesson, students have a better understanding of the terms
controversial , pro , and con , and they are better
able to see both sides of a controversial topic.
Reading between the lines
Students use Internet resources to keep informed about world events,
hopefully creating an ongoing reading interest.
Persuasive Writing
Students learn how to use persuasive writing in commercials and in
formal essays. This flexible lesson includes many suggested
activities.
Arguing a Point
This is a group activity that focuses on interpersonal skills by
encouraging students to discuss a topic that will stimulate an
argument for which there is no clear right answer.
