Exploring Disability Using Multimedia and the B-D-A Reading Strategy
In this lesson, students apply the B-D-A (before-during-after) reading comprehension strategy as they explore varied aspects of disability by investigating rich, interactive multimedia resources.


Discovering a Passion for Poetry with Langston Hughes
After analyzing examples of contemporary youth poetry as well as the poetry of Langston Hughes, students will use the Internet to conduct research on how events in the world have shaped Hughes' work.


Effective Public Speaking
Students deliver two short, impromptu, speeches to help  overcome stage fright and improve public speaking skills.

Delivering a Persuasive Speech
Students pick an unpopular proposition on an issue and write a 6 to 8 - minute speech in outline form to persuade the group.  The lesson can be modified to include using presentation software.

Quilting with Literature
Students work in small groups to study a chosen literary period and present their findings to the entire class.  This lesson is designed as a semester project but can be modified to meet time restrictions.

Writing, Representing, and Speaking (Products and Presentations)
Group students and assign a simulation project, in which each student is expected to assume a role of responsibility and fulfill specified tasks that include completing relevant professional communication products to deadline.
