Literary Fan Club
Selecting and researching an author, students create and advertise a
fan club. Whale

Uses information about 19th century life to enable students to
understand Moby Dick and produce imitative journals.
Learning to Read on the Web
Students learn how to skim and scan information on the Internet. Click

lesson.
Exploring Disability Using Multimedia and the B-D-A Reading Strategy
In this lesson, students apply the B-D-A (before-during-after) reading
comprehension strategy as they explore varied aspects of disability by
investigating rich, interactive multimedia resources.

Using Primary Sources
Students learn to distinguish between primary and secondary sources of
information. Students also learn to find and evaluate primary sources
for research projects.
Purdue University's Online Writing Lab
(OWL) is a helpful resource for research and writing papers. OWL
includes free handouts and PowerPoint presentations.

Students visit the library and the Internet to locate sources for
words, facts, places and new information.
(I, T) Students locate a publication and copy on a note card the
correct bibliographical information or URL for that source. Students
may also access this information through the library’s catalogue
software.

T) Students participate in a teacher-created library “scavenger hunt”
requiring simple answers from a variety of sources within the library.
