Grade 1, Language Arts
Language Expression: Determine purpose for writing (COS 18, 21, 24/ SAT10)

Lesson Plans:

Book Sorting:  Using Observation and Comprehension to Categorize Books
Students choose books from the classroom library, then use their observation skills to sort them into categories while discussing the content and illustrations.  They then explain their sorting criteria in writing.

Feelings (Happy. Sad, Silly, Angry, Scared)
This is a reading and writing lesson for individual small group instruction where students use personal experiences to describe five different feelings.  This would be good to use as a Six-Traits lesson on voice.

My Teacher's Secret Life
Students will listen to Stephen Krensky's My Teacher's Secret Life, discuss the content, and make predictions about what everyone does when they're away from school.
