Language Expression: Organize information (COS 18/ SAT10)

Picture This!
Given a prompt, the student develops a theme using four sequential pictures with words that correlate to the pictures.

Busiest People Ever
This lesson plan integrates social studies with organizing information.

Writing with Koala Lou (Sequencing and BME)
After reading the story Koala Lou aloud, students practice sequencing the events of the story and identifying the beginning, middle and end. Upon completing this activity in cooperative groups they write using a teacher given prompt, including proper sequence and beginning, middle and end. They also share the final product with their cooperative group. 

Alphabetizing With Original Stories
This lesson challenges students to write original stories using alphabetical order.

Graphic Organizers from Houghton Mifflin:  These graphic organizers would be great for writing and reading response.
 

Suggestions for English Language Learners: 
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)
  

(E/B) Students write the letters of the alphabet and find a word that starts with each letter.

Students make personal picture dictionaries from picture files or other appropriate sources such as magazines and photocopies.

Students copy teacher and peer created writings.

Students participate in teacher-led brainstorming, webbing and mapping to create word banks.
