Language Expression: Organize information (COS 17/ SAT 10)

Lesson Plans:

Alphabetizing With Original Stories
This lesson challenges students to write original stories using alphabetical order.

Collaborating on a Class Book:  Exploring Before-During-After Sequences
In this classroom project, students and the teacher produce a class book through a group-writing activity, focusing on a basic before-during-after sequence of events.  In this case, the book focuses on the carving of the class jack-o-lantern.

Where Do We Begin?
Students learn that writing and reading have to be in a certain order to make sense.  This lesson will show students that in a no nonsense way!

Resources:

Tall Tales:  Your students will organize words and phrases into somewhat silly sentences.

The Patchworker:  This game has kids organize words into sentences to make a story.

Suggestions for English Language Learners:
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)

(E/B, D) Give them a vocabulary box (and draw a simple picture for each word) for them to use in their writing.
(E/B, D, E) Students make a teacher-led map of ideas for prewriting.
(E/B, D, E) Students complete a writing map/graphic organizer using pictures and possibly one or two words. (Provide students with pictures related to their topic.)
