Language Expression: Determine an appropriate supporting sentence (COS 17, 20/ SAT10)

Lesson Plans:

How to Write a Paragraph
This is a five week set of lessons devoted to paragraph writing.

Small Group Shared Writing
Small cooperative groups will compose a text and have the process modeled for them as part of a weekly writing curriculum. Students can practice writing, hear your thoughts as an expert writer, and have the support of others in their group.

Reading and Writing About Whales Using Nonfiction Texts
This lesson teaches students how to formulate research questions and write letters.  Depending on the level of your students, whole class, small group, or individual letters about blue whales are then written, revised, and sent to an online scientist

Resources:

Story writing paper

Magnetic Words:  Students can practice making sentences using magnetic words on this site.  After they have created their sentences, they could write them down on a sheet of paper and develop other sentences to go with it.

Suggestions for English Language Learners:
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)

(E/B) Let students work with a buddy to do their writing together. The buddy can write down what they say.
(E/B, D) Allow students to draw a picture, only write a word or two, or write some words in their native language.
(E/B, D, E) Have students use a topic from a teacher-led map of ideas for prewriting, or their own writing map/graphic organizer.
(D, E) Let students work with a buddy to do their writing together.
