Spelling: Recognize the correct spelling of sight words (COS 17, 18/ SAT10)

Lesson Plans:

Dr. Seuss's Sound Words:  Playing with Phonics and Spelling. 
Use Mr. Brown Can MOO! Can You? to help students develop spelling strategies that help them move from phonemes to graphemes.

Poetry Portfolios:  Using Poetry to Teach Reading and Writing. 
Through a weekly poem, students explore meaning, sentence structure, rhyming words, sight words, vocabulary, and print concepts.

Everyday Spelling for Second Grade

Look, Cover, Write, Check:  This game is a good way for students to practice spelling words from several different lists.

Harcourt Brace Spelling Word Builder:  Unscramble the words from particular spelling lists.

Suggestions for English Language Learners: 
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)

(E/B) Students recognize sound-letter relationships by listening to each letter sound on tape while viewing each letter
(E/B, D) Students identify blending sounds by repeating what the teacher models.
(E/B, D, E) Students identify letter sounds from flash cards and then combine the phonemic sounds to form words.
(E/B, D, E) Students sound words and then use magnetic letters to practice decoding the words they sound out.
(D, E) Students manipulate letter cards in a pocket chart for blending, spelling, and decoding words and sentences.
(D, E) Students use magnetic letters to blend sounds of the English language to form decodable words.
