Language Expression: Determine purpose for writing (COS 20, 24, 25/ SAT 10)

Lesson Plans:

Annie and the Old One
This unit provides resources for third grade students to focus on the traditions of the Navajo Indian tribe and how physical features affect where and how people live.  Included in this unit students will write a brief narrative.

Book Buddy Biographies:  Intermediate and Primary Students Working Together
The success of a year-long Book Buddy program hinges on those first few days at the beginning of the year. As students are first introduced, they have the opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal level by creating personalized biographies.

Group Story Writing
Here is an activity that is lots of fun and will get your students' creative juices flowing.

When I Was Young
In this lesson, students will learn about how history has been preserved through oral storytelling. Students will interview a family or community member to find out what life was like when they were young, and share this person's story with the class.

Resources:

Kids' Space:  This is an international forum for kids to share writing and communicate with children from other places.

The TEAMS Writing Process:  Students progress through "brainstorming," a story web, and a rough draft to the final product. You can watch all of the video or just a segment.  This is hosted on Discovery Education unitedstreaming, and to access it you must have your user name and password.  All teachers in Alabama can get this information from their school's media specialist or technology support teacher.
