Language Expression: Organize information (COS 20, 25/ SAT 10)

Lesson Plans:

Sequencing Monster
This lesson provides a visual experience in which students develop a better understanding of sequencing, while further developing their writing skills.

Behind the Scenes With Cinderella
This lesson begins by having students compare a version of the Cinderella folk tale from France with a version from the United States to help students make connections between the characters, setting, and plot.  As part of the lesson, students use literature and the Internet to research and learn about the geography, architecture, and weather that are associated with the setting of Moss Gown.

A Whale of a Tale
Students will research and gather facts about whales and use this information to create a narrative (story) with interesting and realistic elaborations.

What a Character!
Students will read a fiction book of their choice and participate in several activities dealing with the main character.  They will complete a worksheet in which they describe and compare the character.  They will write a friendly letter to their character telling what they would have done the same or differently in the story.

Resources:

Circular Sequencing Graphic Organizer

A Story Treasure Hunt: Students will enjoy the treasure hunt activity used with this sequencing activity.

(E/B, D, E) Students make a teacher-led map of ideas for prewriting.
(E/B, D, E)
Students complete a writing map/graphic organizer using just a few words for the topic and supporting details. (Provide students with pictures related to their topic.)
