Language Expression: Combine sentences correctly (COS 26/ SAT 10)

Lesson Plans:

Transition Words and Phrases
Students will learn to combine sentences using two types of transition words:  time transitions and thought transitions.

Simple Simon Says...Compound It!
The lesson is designed to identify and write simple and compound sentences.

At the Compound
This lesson incorporates review of science and social studies concepts to write compound sentences.

Successful Paragraphs
This activity guides students through the writing process for a successful five-sentence paragraph with varied sentence beginnings. Repeating this process frequently with many, varied topics teaches students to use variety to create interesting paragraphs.

Sentence Fragments:  This resource gives teaching tips for distinguishing between and sentence and a fragment.  It also tells how to combine sentences.  The reproducibles focus on locating fragments.

Self-Test Quiz: Comparing and Contrasting:  This is an exercise on combining sentences

Suggestions for English Language Learners: 
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)

(E/B) Student use conjunctions to combine simple sentences on sentence strips.
(D, E) Students use pre-written words (i.e. a word box, word walls, etc.) to create sentences.
(D, E) Students work in small groups or with partners to edit and revise writing.
