Language Expression: Determine an appropriate topic sentence (COS 24, 25/ SAT10)

Successful Paragraphs
This activity guides students through the writing process for a successful five-sentence paragraph with varied sentence beginnings. 

Intriguing Beginnings
Students become Doctors of Intrigue as they search for the ever illusive intriguing beginning. Guided practice is provided for developing this writing skill.

Action Chains
Students learn to elaborate on an event in a narrative by expanding their sentences into action chains.  Expanding single actions into an action chains provides the reader with a more detailed picture of an event in a narrative.

Suggestions for English Language Learners: 
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)

(E/B, D, E) Students use pre-written words (i.e. a word box, word walls, etc.) to create sentences.
(D, E) Students work with partners to take notes on a particular reading and then outline the notes for understanding.
