Spelling:  Approximate the spelling of words (COS 8, 20)

Lesson Plans:

Circles of Life
In Circles of Life, students record by drawing and writing what they saw outside.

Come Blow Your Horn  
This lesson uses the nursery rhyme Little Boy Blue to introduce writing using phonetic spelling of words.  The students will interpret meaning and creatively rewrite the rhyme.

Word Family Jamboree 
The Cat in the Hat is used to begin this lesson that will focus on the -at family.

Spelling Strategies:  Make Smart Use of Sounds and Spelling Patterns

Puppy Letters:  This is an interactive game featuring Clifford, the Big Red Dog.  Choose the easy level, and students will be able to practice conventional spelling.

Suggestions for English Language Learners: 
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)
 

(E/B) Students draw creative pictures of ideas described by the teacher.
(E/B)
Provide examples to students that follow regular phonemic patterns.
(D) Students become familiar with letters of the alphabet by copying letters correctly into a notebook.
