Suggestions for English Language Learners:
ESL Ideas
(B=Beginning,
I=Intermediate,
T=Transitional)
(B, I, T)
Students
write or orally describe in small groups how they feel about the
characters they encounter in stories. Beginning students could draw
pictures that demonstrate the
feelings of the literary characters and students. See also The
Feelings Book by Todd Parr.
(B, I, T) See also
More Ideas Than You’ll Ever Use for Book Reports.
Many of these ideas can be adapted for use by English language
learners.
(B)
Students create a journal which starts with pictures and words from
their first language.
(I, T) Students keep a written, non-graded journal in which they
free-write, and the teacher then responds in writing.
