Suggestions for English Language Learners:                   

ESL Ideas      (B=Beginning, I=Intermediate, T=Transitional)
(B) Students draw pictures of their first impressions of the
United States or memories from back home. 
(I, T) Students write daily or weekly in a non-graded journal. Students may write questions they need answers to or write comments about happenings in their daily lives. The teacher should respond with comments and clarification to help students express themselves clearly.
(B, I, T) Students use teacher-made rubrics for self and peer assessment.  See
