Suggestions for English Language Learners:
ESL Ideas (B=Beginning, I=Intermediate,
T=Transitional)
(B,
I, T) For
prewriting, students individually list adjectives that describe a
picture or photograph provided to them. Intermediate and transitional
students then brainstorm their list of adjectives to view
appropriateness.
(B, I, T) For drafting, students write a short sentence using the
adjectives. Students compare their sentences with other classmates. If
students can organize their sentences into paragraphs, they do so at
this time.
(I, T) For revising, students check for paragraph structure,
capitalization and punctuation, verb tenses and subject-verb agreement.
(I, T) For editing, students should revise the
final draft by taking suggestions into consideration. This can be done
individually or with other students.
(I, T) For publishing, students can print their document on the
computer and coordinate it into a class publication.
