Suggestions for English Language Learners:
ESL Ideas (B=Beginning, I=Intermediate,
T=Transitional)
(B, I, T)
Students
find common words in English and their first language. They then put
“sample trees” on the bulletin board. These family trees can be used to
compare common words and their meanings. Transitional students can be
expected to find more grade-appropriate words to compare.
(B, I, T) Students find and write as many regional expressions as
possible. Students discover their meanings by asking students in their
class
