HS, Biology
Std 7:    Apply Mendel’s laws to determine phenotypic and genotypic probabilities of offspring.
• Defining important genetic terms, including monohybrid cross, phenotype, genotype, homozygous, heterozygous, dominant trait, recessive trait, incomplete dominance, codominance, and allele
• Interpreting inheritance patterns shown in graphs and charts

Lesson Plans:

Beans and Genes
DISTINGUISH EXPECTED AND OBSERVED GENETIC RATIOS

Bunny Babies
Bunny Babies is an activity that can be used to reinforce the role of probability in the inheritance of traits. In this activity students use coins to represent the gametes of their bunny baby parents.

Karyotype Activity
Using playing cards.

Create a Kid
Students flip a pair of coins to determine what genotype and what phenotype their child will have for 29 given traits. They then draw a picture of their kid based on their coin flip phenotypes.
