Std #
1:  Identify global patterns of atmospheric movement, including El Nino, the Gulf Stream, the jet stream, the Coriolis effect, and global winds that influence local weather.

Lesson Plans:

The El Nino Effect Using the Internet
Students will identify, analyze, and use patterns such as cycles and trends to understand past and present events and predict possible future events.  Students will identify and analyze systems and ways their components work together of affect each other.

Biomes:  Extreme Climate
Students will discuss important terms related to global warming, create a web, and write a paragraph explaining the role of the Arctic in the world climate.

Create Your Own Sailing Adventure
Students will understand how hot and cold currents work.

Highs and Lows
The movement of air masses can be confusing and difficult for students to conceptualize.

Understanding: Oceans
Students will understand the following all the oceans on Earth are really one "world ocean".

Introduction to Satellite Oceanography
This unit is an introduction to infrared satellite imagery and is designed to be used as a classroom exercise.  It begins with an introduction to infared satellite imagery and explains two sample images.  It then gives some uses of satellite imagery and suggests questions that can be answered with the images provided at the end.

A Model of Earth's Atmosphere
Students make a model of the four layers of Earth's atmosphere that represents the characteristics of each layer.
