| Lesson Plans:
The Phases of the Moon
By engaging students in a variety of activities targeting different
learning styles, students will become familiar with the phases of the
moon, and will be able to explain the reasons for the lunar phases
depending on the orientation of the sun, moon, and Earth.
MOON MAGIC!
Students will discover how the relative
positions of the earth, sun, and moon cause the phases of the moon.
They will calculate the moon's circumference and its distance from
earth. Demonstrations and activities will help students better
understand, name, and predict the moon's monthly cycle.
The Tides
Students in this lesson will be introduced to the concept of tides and
tidal forces, and will be asked to discuss the benefits of tides to
life on Earth.
Moon Munching
Students bite out the phases of the moon using cookies. A simple,
fun activity!
Lunar Lollipops
After completing this activity students should understand that the
observed phase of the Moon is determined by the Moon's position
relative to the Earth and Sun.
