1.1:  Identify global patterns of atmospheric movements.

Lesson Plans:

A Comparison of Cloud Cover over Africa
Students use a NASA satellite data to contrast amounts of cloud coverage over different climate regions in Africa.

Climate Controls
Students consider how various parts of the world and the United States are affected by climate controls such as world air currents.

Creative Climates
Students will create a climate map to illustrate the world's different climate zones.

Frontal Storms and Density
Demonstrate why winds blow faster over the ocean than over the land because there is not as much friction over the water.

Biomes:  Extreme Climate
Students will discuss important terms related to global warming, create a web, and write a paragraph explaining the role of the Arctic in the world climate.

Highs and Lows
This activity aids in the understanding of high and low pressure behavior, vacuums, and molecular structure.

Movement of Fronts
Demonstrate how the movement of fronts affects weather in the U.S.

Frontal Storms and Density
Demonstrate how air masses with different densities will not mix.

The Frozen Desert
Students explore the concept of climate, construct climate graphs to help identify factors that influence climate. Climate graphs displaying data from locations in Antarctica allow students to explore that continent's unique climatic condions.

Introduction to Satellite Oceanography
This unit is an introduction to infrared satellite imagery and is designed to be used as a classroom exercise.

A Model of Earth's Atmosphere
Students make a model of the four layers of Earth's atmosphere and describe characteristics of each layer.
