| Lesson Plans:
The Future of the Milky Way
Students will speculate about the changes that are taking place in our
galaxy, research the latest ideas on the future of the Milky Way, and
discuss the consequences of events that may happen in the future.
Tour of the Solar System
Students, in groups, will research, design, and create a PowerPoint
presentation on the planets. The class will then take a “tour of the
solar system.”
Exploring the Solar System
Introducing students to earth's moon and the
eight other planets in our solar system.
Where Are We in the Milky Way?
Students will use art and hands-on demonstrations to increase
participation and interest.
Classifying
Galaxies
Students will become familiar with the Hubble Tuning Fork Diagram and
classify pictures of galaxies.
Once in a Blue Moon
Students will use number theory skills to investigate when certain
planets are aligned.
The Best of the Solar System
Introduce students to planetary research and familiarize them with the
planets and their features.
Planetary Profiles
Students will understand characteristics of the planets and moons in
the solar system and differentiate between a
scientific theory and a scientific fact.
How Big is That Star?
Students will explain the relationship between radius and mass among a
list of stars, understand how a binary star system's orbit can cause
changes in the observed brightness of the system, and determine the
diameter of stars by analyzing data and manipulating equations.
Galaxies Galore, Games and More
The purpose of this lesson is for students to gain a general
understanding of the structure of galaxies such as their own galaxy
(the Milky Way) and to acquire knowledge about the three main types of
galaxies using scientific inquiry in an interactive format.
