Students will actively participate in the lesson forming logical linkages between previously covered materials and new knowledge about viruses.

Bird Flu: The Next Pandemic?
Students participate in a class simulation to learn about how viruses spread, often without the knowledge of those who are infected.

Virus Epidemic Lesson Plan
This lesson plan deals with discussions on sexually transmitted diseases and benefits of monogamy.  The lesson can be altered to deal with the influenza virus which can be transmitted by being in close proximity to infected individuals.

Secrets of the Dead
Students learn the story of the 1918 influenza pandemic and about the use of electrophoresis and DNA fingerprinting to identify an unknown, using UPS barcodes to represent the DNA banding patterns.

Understanding Viruses
Students will work on a project in which they suggest a useful purpose for a virus.
