3.2 Relate major tissues and organs of the skeletal system to their functions

Lesson Plans:

Bones, Bones, and More Bones
This lesson allows students to hypothesize and experiment about bones.  Students discover how hollow bones are stronger than solid bones, how vinegar weakens bones, and they are able to construct a model skeleton using various materials.  This lesson includes a performance assessment as well.  Utilizes cooperative groups and meaningful learning.

Hip Replacement
Other animals' joints work similarly to ours. By investigating their skeletons with the use of owl pellets we learn about the placement and functions of our own bodies.

Travel Brochure of the Body Systems
In this Access Excellence lesson plan for grades 9-12, students produce a travel brochure for a tour through each of 8 body systems and a working model of one of the systems. Assessment rubrics are given.

Broken Bones
Why is it important to immobilize a fractured bone? Observe how to splint a fractured limb, and learn the importance of immobilization in the treatment of broken bones.

Human Skeleton Exercise
Build a skeleton.

Bones
Scary. Creepy. Weird. Cool. That's what you may say about skeletons on Halloween. Now you can easily make one in your classroom.

Joints of a Skeleton
Students will name the different joints and understand how they work in the skeletal system.

Resources:
