Animal Classification
Students will devise
their own system of classifying everyday objects around the room.
Students should use at least four levels of classification, but they
may use as many more levels as they find necessary. They should end
up with a two-part name for each of several objects in the room.
Animals and Humans Say the Darnest Things
Students will be able to describe the methods animals use to
communicate with humans, describe the similarities and differences in
the amino acid sequences of various animals including humans, and
create a short film that examines communication methods that occur
between humans and animals.
Invertebrates
Students will
examine their house, yard, and neighborhood for examples of life
forms—both animals and plants—that exhibit either radial or
bilateral symmetry.
In the Company of Whales
Students
research the migration behaviors of different whales.
Arthropod Diversity
Students will create a dichotomous key to differentiate between
different arthropods.
Happy as a Clam Lab
Groups will compare the anatomies of various mollusks.
The Amazing Starfish
Students are to construct a figure with the modeling clay that
resembles the components essential to the water vascular system.
Animal Bites
