| Lesson Plans:
The Dynamic Earth
Students are introduced to
the nature of earthquakes and volcanoes.
Erosion
The following activities will demonstrate to students various types
of erosion.
Brick
Pebbles
Students will be able to describe the effects of abrasion
(weathering) on the shape and size of brick fragments, classify the
brick fragments according to the amount of shaking and infer where
this process happens to real rocks.
Unique Landforms
Students
will learn how water and erosion affect the landscape, research one
of three specific landforms: canyon, cave, and concretion; create a
visual display illustrating its formation and how it evolved.
Erosion
The following activities will demonstrate to students various types
of erosion. The purpose of these activities is to increase students’
awareness to the point where they can make intelligent decisions on
proper land use.
Collecting Rocks
Students will acquire background knowledge of rocks, how they are
formed, how they are used, and how to collect them.
Rocks and Minerals – Uses Past and Present
Students will learn the importance of rocks in past and present
societies. Student will discover the many uses of rocks.
Minerals – The Building Blocks of Rocks
Students will acquire an understanding of how rocks are composed of
different minerals.
Identifying Erosion
Students will be able to identify erosion and explain the causes of
erosion. This lesson has a technology component.
How Was the Grand Canyon Formed?
In this lesson, students will learn about how the Grand Canyon was
formed, focusing on how the process of erosion enabled its rock
layers to be deposited. This lesson has a technology component.
