| Lesson Plans:
The Phenomenon of Sound
This site
helps students to understand the components
of sound.
Wavelength and Pitch - Musical Instruments
Students will understand the correspondence between length and pitch;
understand how musical instruments work.
The Phenomenon of Sound
Students will
observe a variety
of sound waves in lab stations and record their observations in a wave
booklet.
Sounds Like Fun
Children are introduced to the concept of sound travel. Students
construct "cup phones" and determine if sound travels better through
plastic or insulated cups.
Sound
In this lesson students will understand that sound is caused by
vibrations and that the pitch of a sound depends on vibrations.
Understanding Sound
The students will demonstrate their understanding of sound travel by
predicting and explaining why you can hear the sound of a train
coming when you put your ear on the track faster than you would by
the air.
Sound Unit
This unit contains six lessons about sound. Students build a sound
wave detector, construct and test a cup-and-string sound carrier,
and create string, percussion and wind instruments for a class
orchestra.
Let’s Hear It For Sound!
Students will learn about sound, vibrations, and pitch with five
activities. The plan includes supplemental pages and an assessment.
A Black Box Problem: How Do I Hear?
Students assemble a diagram of the hearing pathway using information
about its parts and their functions, describe how sound is
represented at various points along the pathway, and predict the
changes in hearing that might result from specific changes to the
pathway.
