Suggestions for English Language Learners (ELLs):
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)
(E/B):
Make a tissue paper collage of the sun.
(E/B): Create shadow puppets.
(E/B): Show a picture of the sun at this website
Sun and then draw their own picture of the sun and label it.
(E/B): In a darkened room, use a flashlight to represent the
'sun' and shine a light on objects and create shadows.
(E/B, D): Match pictures of objects with their shadows.
(E/B, D, E): Place a plant in a dark closet for a few days
and have students keep a chart drawing the plant before/after.
(E/B, D, E): Give students a chart (before/after), and label
"Grape" on the top of the first column. Have students draw a picture
of their grape and then place it in on a paper plate (covered with
cheesecloth) outside. Have students check their grapes each day
drawing changes on their charts. After 4 days their grapes should
have turned into raisins (label "Raisin" on the last column on
charts) and can be eaten with sun tea that the class can make as
well.
