Suggestions for English Language Learners (ELLs):
(E/B=Entering/Beginning, D=Developing, E=Expanding)

E/B: Show students a picture that shows different landforms. Give simple prompts such as: "I am pointing to the mountain. Now you point to the mountain."
E/B: Ask students to show thumbs up when shown a landform (or body of water) and thumbs down if it's not.
E/B: Draw a picture of a type of landform (or body of water), (D, E): and label it, or write a short sentence or phrase describing it.
E/B: Classify pictures as either landforms or bodies of water by pasting their pictures onto a T-chart. (D, E): More proficient students may orally point to the pictures and share the name of the landform or body of water with a partner.
D: Ask yes/no questions and questions with embedded answers: "Is this a mountain? Is it high or low?"
E: Elicit elaboration through open-ended prompts: "Tell us what the mountain is like."
