Std 6.3:  Identify the nomenclature of ionic compounds, binary compounds, and acids
.

Lesson Plans:

ATOMIC THEORY: INTERNET BASED LESSON PLAN
The objective of this lesson is for students to become familiar with the historic and scientific development of atomic theory. They will recognize the beginnings of atomic theory with the ancient Greeks, and follow its changes through to modern wave theory.

Atomic Exploration:
Students will express their current knowledge of atomic structure. Groups of students will then use the internet to learn about different models of the atom, from the Greeks to the wave mechanical model. Each group will present their findings to the class.

Emission Spectra
To observe and calculate the energies of the emission line spectra of several elements.

Identification of Metals Using a Flame Test
Students will observe and identify elements based on the color produced in a flame test.

Resources:

THE SAME EVERYWHERE
Chem-4-kids periodic table.

Tom Stretton's Chemistry Pages

The Periodic Table of Comic Books
Associates each element with a comic reference - fun

Interactive Periodic Table
Created by an eighth-grade student!

Chemicool Periodic Table
This is an all-purpose, interactive periodic table that would be useful for high-school chemistry classes. In addition to general information about the elements, it includes the following: states, energies, oxidation and electrons, appearance and characteristics, reactions, conductivity, abundances, and more.
