HS, Chemistry
Std 4.3: Describe acids and bases in terms of strength, concentration, pH, and neutralization reactions.

Lesson Plans:

Acid Stomach
To develop an understanding of how aspirin works and how understanding it's interaction with other chemicals in the body aided doctors in medical research.

Acids/Bases
The student will be able to: 1) distinguish between the differences of acids/bases, 2) demonstrate how to test for acids and bases, and 3) communicate the significance of testing for acids and bases.

Acid Rain Environment Pollution
Students demonstrate how to use a pH indicator, know the difference between and acid, and a base, and observe the effects of acid rain.

Chemistry is pHun
The main objectives of this mini-teach are to familiarize uppergrade students
with the concept of pH, to teach students how to use litmus and pH paper to
determine pH and to make students aware of natural indicators.

The Difference Between Acids and Bases Using Different Indicators
To identify the differences between acids and bases using litmus paper,
pH paper and indicator solution.

Acids, Bases, and Indicators
This is a multileveled approach to learning some of the common
characteristics of acidic and basic solutions and use of some of the
common indicators.

Indicators For Acids And Bases
Make cabbage water as an indicator and see the color it turns when
acids and bases are mixed in it.

pH Neutralization For Pollution Control
Practical Application For Chemical Industries

Can Acids And Bases Remedy The Body?
Students determine the effectiveness of various antacids or home remedies on an acidic stomach and determine why some analgesics cause additional stomach upset and are not recommended when only pain persists.

Acids) - Base(s) Detective
Students classify household chemicals into acid(s) and base(s).

Acid-Base Titration
The purpose of this lab is to experimentally determine the concentration of an unknown base solution stored in the carboy near the windows.

Household Acids and Bases
The learners will be able to determine whether a substance dissolved
in water will form an acid, a base or a neutral solution.  They will also be able to infer the presence of acids or bases from evidence in the demonstration of interactions of common household products and an indicator.

Acid-Base Titration Lab #1
To successfully titrate a weak acid against a strong base and determine the concentration of the weak acid as well as picking an apporpriate acid-base indicator that is suitable for this particular reaction.

Acid-Base Tester
Interactive applet to test pH of solutions.

The Chemistry of Hair Care
Students will do hands-on activities and read information online in order to answer the central question of this lesson: How does understanding the chemistry of hair care, including the role of pH, help in the development of better hair-care products?
