HS, Chemistry
Std 8.1: Calculate temperature changes by using specific heat. Distinguish among endothermic and exothermic reactions.

Lesson Plans:

Activation Energy
The student will define the terms endothermic, exothermic, and activation energy.

Calorimetry
To develop an understanding of the fundamentals of calorimetry. That the
students will learn how to manipulate and set up the equipment and the
development of increasing and decreasing amounts of heat.

Heat of Solution of a Solid
To measure experimentally the amount of heat involved in the dissolving of ammonium nitrate and of sodium acetate in water.

Heat of Reaction - Hess's Law
In this experiment, you will measure and compare the quantity of heat involved in three reactions. These heats of reaction will be measured using a styrofoam calorimeter.

Experimental Applications of Hess's Law
In this lab, you will conduct two such investigations. In the first one we will examine the combustion of magnesium.  In the second investigation, we will examine the heat of formation of solid calcium hydroxide.

EXOTHERMIC AND ENDOTHERMIC REACTIONS
Students are to observe several exothermic and endothermic reactions, determine the changes that take place in a chemical reaction, and to observe how fast a reaction is taking place and what factors influence a chemical reaction.

Measuring the Heat Energy of a Chemical Change
To compare the heat conducting properties of water and paper by boiling water.

Basic Endothermic / Exothermic Lab

Resources:

THE SAME EVERYWHERE
Chem-4-kids periodic table.

Tom Stretton's Chemistry Pages
Great tutorials and practice problems

The Periodic Table of Comic Books
Associates each element with a comic reference - fun

Interactive Periodic Table
Created by an eighth-grade student!

Chemicool Periodic Table
This is an all-purpose, interactive periodic table that would be useful for high-school chemistry classes. In addition to general information about the elements, it includes the following: states, energies, oxidation and electrons, appearance and characteristics, reactions, conductivity, abundances, and more.

Pyrotechnics: It's Elemental
Some of the important elements that make a firework work.

Chem4kids
Great tutorials and activities.
