| Lesson Plans:
Desert Adaptations - Water
When studying adaptations of plants and animals for
life in a desert environment, many concepts remain very abstract
without first-hand experience. Since it is not practical, in most
cases, to take students out in the desert and leave them, this
hands-on activity is the next best thing.
Contaminants in the Water Cycle
Students will review the water cycle and investigate how a region's
water supply can become contaminated. They will look at a list of
the Environmental Protection Agency's maximum contaminant levels for
drinking water, and sketch the water cycle of a fictitious town that
is affected by several pollutants. Students will conclude by writing
paragraphs explaining what a group of concerned citizens in this
hypothetical town might do to improve the quality of its water
supply.
Turtle Island
Identify endangered organisms whose survival directly depends on
wise water policies. Analyze the causes of water
pollution. Design a plan of action to conserve water and improve the
quality of available water.
