Life Cycle of a Frog

Participant Names: Donna Pavelka and Stephanie Hulon

Focus of Unit: The Life Cycle Of A Frog         

Rationale: Students will be able to examine the life cycle of a frog and gain a perspective on life cycles.              

Standards:

Science Curriculum:

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY# 19-Describe how offspring resemble parents.

Technology and Productivity:

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY #4- Use input, output, and storage devices to successfully operate computers, VCRs, audiotapes, and other technologies.

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY # 9- Demonstrate respect for the work of others.

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY#10-Use a variety of media and technology resources for directed and independent learning activities across the curriculum.

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY # 11- Produce developmentally appropriate multimedia products.

                                    Technology and Communication

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY # 14- Identify the Internet as a resource for information.

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY # 15- Utilize information from a locally approved Internet web site.

Technology Research, Problem-Solving, and Decision-Making Tools:

*  ALABAMA COURSE OF STUDY # 16- Use technology resources for problem solving.

 

Learning Activities/Performance Tasks:

*  Activity 1-Research and investigate frogs using a PowerPoint presentation.

*  Activity 2-Research and investigate the stages of the life cycle of a frog.

*  Activity 3-Brainstorm and create a graphic organizer (i.e. Kidspiration) of the life cycle of a frog as a group.

*     Activity 4-Individual students sequence the stages of the life cycle of a frog using kidspiration.           

*  Activity 5- Students complete the paper and pencil evaluation sequencing the life cycle of a frog.

 

Performance Tasks:

*  Students will answer the question, “What do baby frogs look like?”  The students will create the life cycle of a frog in the Kidspiration software.

 

Rubrics, Assessment & Evaluation:

Students will be individually assessed using a paper and pencil test. 

Students will be evaluated on the group project using a rubric. (Multimedia Rubric)

 

Learning Environment:

*              Secure the use of the computer lab, computer projector and other available resources.

*              Monitor student progress.

*              Students work whole group to complete the graphic organizer.

*              Students work individually to complete.

*              Students work individually to complete the life cycle activity.

Passive Resources: textbooks, trade Books, videos, the Center for Applied Research Documents

Dynamic Resources:

*  Curriculum Support Software: Internet Sites, CD ROMS

*  Tool Software: Kidspiration, word processing software, graphics, multimedia

*  Peripherals: printer, computer projector
