Where Do You Work?

Focus of Unit:  Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, Technology

Rationale:
Students will become aware of natural environments and the way they affect
occupational opportunities
 

Curriculum Standards: 

  • Identify ways the natural environment affects occupational opportunities

  • Associate knowledge learned in the language arts program to life situations. 

  • Solve problems using a variety of tools, models, and techniques.

  • Solve problems using a variety of tools, models, and techniques.

  • Analyze, organize, summarize, and display information collected from real life situations: lists, tally charts, tables, and graphs.  Grade 3

  • Predict, record, summarize, and discuss outcomes using sampling or real life data and information.  Grade 3

Technology Standards:

  • Use a variety of media and technology resources for the directed and independent learning activities across the curriculum.

  • Utilize information from a locally approved Internet web site

  • Use telecommunications and other media to collaborate and interact with peers and other audiences, following appropriate laws and regulations.

  • Use Technology for solving problems.

Learning Activities/Performance Tasks:

  1. Student will review what they have learned in previously taught unit about natural environments through a teacher PowerPoint presentation.

  2. Student will choose a natural environment presented and answer the question: “What are some of the different occupations available in your area?” through a letter, telephone, postcard, ask someone, email.

  3. Student will send teacher generated form through mail, email, postcard or use as a questionnaire.

  4. Data will be collected and students will present findings through: 

           Kidspiration/Oral Presentation (Kidspiration software required)

            Written Report given orally

            PowerPoint

            Poster with oral explanation

            Graph with oral explanation

Learning Environment:
Students will participate in direct instruction. They will use letter writing, email, interview and Internet search to collect data. Students will present results through written and oral methods of their choice.
