This activity allows students to use their emerging writing skills to write their own shopping lists. Students are highly motivated to work within a budget, use their problem-solving skills to create shopping lists, and buy their favorite treats at the class store.

Students will write and illustrate ideas for helping our environment on paper grocery bags that will be distributed at the local grocery store.

Writing Prompts: These sites have a variety of writing prompts to help students develop stories. Includes some handouts and PowerPoint presentations.

Writing Assessment Tools: These sites include rubrics, scoring guides, and checklists for assessing student writing. Ideas for peer editing and student self-evaluation are included. Several of these assessment tools can be used as they are while others can be constructed online.
