Benchmark H: Edit writing for conventions (COS 17-19, 23/ SAT 10)
  1. Capitalize the pronoun I, proper nouns, and the first word of sentences
  2. Punctuate sentences using periods, question marks, exclamation marks, apostrophes with contractions and possessives, and commas with items in a series
  3. Use conventional spelling for grade-appropriate words
  4. Use knowledge of sounds and letters to phonetically write advanced words
  5. Use appropriate grammar (nouns, verbs, pronoun, adjectives, adverbs, and subject-verb agreement with simple subject)
  6. Use correct abbreviations

This is a game designed to help students recognize and demonstrate action words.

Capitalization and Washington, D.C.
In this unit, students learn and practice capitalizing names of cities, states, countries, streets, buildings, bridges, and geographical places around the theme of Washington, D.C.

Word Study With Henry and Mudge
This lesson  uses a model that incorporates different reading stages and research-based strategies for teaching reading to provide direct instruction for the past tense marker –ed. Students also practice real reading and writing using books from the Henry and Mudge series.

This multi-session activity uses students’ speaking vocabularies to help them learn about complete sentences.
