Can You Follow My Directions?
Students will place coins on a grid and will write clear directions to help other students find the coins.

A Message In a Bottle
In this activity, students will write a tale about an imaginary adventure that has left them stranded on a desert island.

Charlotte's Web
This 3rd grade unit is designed to be used with Charlotte's Web by E. B. White to further students' understanding of life on the family farm. They will use both descriptive and expository writing as they complete the unit.

The "Write" Stuff:  Third Grade Strategies and Conventions for Expository Writing
Students will develop an understanding of the writing process while learning strategies and conventions involved in expository writing.

Artistic Elements: Exploring Art Through Descriptive Writing
In this lesson, students become engaged in the studies of both art and written language, as they create descriptive writing pieces in which adjectives are used to describe the artistic elements present within a work.

A Play On Words
Students make predictions about the story Verdi, based on the cover. After hearing the story they will make a new list of descriptions, personality traits, etc. Students will select an animal and write a narrative story about the animal.

Are You For Real
Students review newspaper articles, magazine articles and advertisements to determine if they are informative or persuasive. They identify the methods that the writers use to persuade or inform the audience.
