Introduction

       Did you know that Alabama and many Alabamians played very important roles in the Civil Rights Movement in the United States?

Many of the marches, protest and deaths that propelled the movement and kept civil rights in front of the people and the National Government took place along the highway and byways of Alabama.

Task

     

Your 1st task is to locate four sites in the state of Alabama that are important to the history of the Civil rights movement and write at least a paragraph describing the event that happen on this sight.

Your 2nd task is to identify four Alabamians that played an important role in the Civil Rights movement and write a paragraph about each of their role in the movement.

Process

1.    First you will be assigned to a group. (Not to exceed 4 students.)

2.    You will divide the tasks between the members of the group. Each member will research and write on their assigned tasks.

Conclusion: You have learned about the struggles that many faced during Alabama’s civil rights era. You have also identified sites in the state where these struggles took place. Hopefully you now have a greater awareness of how much your freedoms cost your parents, grandparents and all those who came before you.
