Compare and contrast social
and cultural interests by creating appropriate attire and dramatizing events
and issues of that time period.
Process

Students will dramatize the
theme of Romeo and Juliet as it appears in the character of the different
decades. A demonstration of everyday
life will be interwoven as students dramatize the theme. Everyday life, specific
to the decade, includes, but is not limited to, entertainment, sports, social
etiquette, science, art, and laws.
There are six students for
each timeframe:
6 students for the 20s/30s; 6
students for the 40s/50s; 6 students for the 60s/70s; and 6 students for the
80s/90s.
Role for the 6 students:
2 students will be the
parents of Romeo
2 students will be the
parents of Juliet
1 student will be Romeo
1 student will be Juliet
Research roles:
Each student will choose a
specific aspect of everyday life to research. Choose from entertainment, sports, social
etiquette, science, art, and laws.
The drama:
Each student will contribute
to creating a script for each role. The
script will demonstrate the theme of Romeo and Juliet and everyday life of the
specific time period.

Conclusion
Congratulations! You have finished your WebQuest.
After completing this WebQuest you will have learned that the Romeo and Juliet themes are ageless. However, they are expressed in the cultural genre of a particular period of time. You will also have learned how to use the computer as a resource and research tool, how to work in groups cooperatively, how to condense information into a compact format, and how to transform written work into an oral presentation.
Did your perceptions of the culture of an earlier time change as a result of this quest? If so, in what ways did they change?
By gaining a greater understanding of the literary themes in Romeo and Juliet, the culture of an earlier time, and sharing your knowledge, you also gain an understanding that social issues of yesterday are the same as today– They are timeless.
