Introduction

On September 5th, 1929 one of the greatest catastrophes took place in American history: The Stock Market crashed. This set our economy into a downward tailspin. People in great masses were taking all of their money out of banks, unemployment rates skyrocketed almost over night, the hourly rate of pay for workers dramatically dropped. Farmers were experiencing crop failure leading to foreclosure or bankruptcy. People lost trust in their government, their banking system, their economic system, and even their next door neighbor. We were a nation lost.
