Introduction

When we think of a solution, we generally think of

  a liquid

However, the jewelry you are wearing

and the air

you breathe are both examples of solutions.

Task

Create a visual representation (sketches or downloaded pictures of the following terms)

·        solute

  • solvent
  • solution
  • colloid
  • emulsion
  • mixture
  • salvation
  • alloy
  • saturated vs supersaturated solutions
  • factors affecting the rate of solution

Process

1)          In your assigned group locate pictures, diagrams, movies, etc. of terms related to solutions.

2)          Your group will develop a power point presentation with a slide for each of the terms listed in the task section.

3)          Your group will present their power point and justify the category you selected for each picture by referencing your text book.

*The following web addresses will get you started. You may also find images from other sources on the internet for your presentation.

 Conclusion

Once completed, this activity will give each of you a visual image that you will find helpful in your study of solutions.  As problem solving occurs later in the chapter, terms like “solvation” will not hinder your progress.
